Mike McGahren-Clemens from Asahi Beer USA Awarded Beer Institute’s 2025 BEST IN BREW Honor

McGahren-Clemens recognized for their contributions to the beer industry and Asahi Beer USA’s Octopi Brewery

Mike McGahren-Clemens, a cellar manager based at Asahi Beer USA’s Octopi brewery in Waunakee, Wisconsin, has been recognized for his contributions to the beer industry at the Beer Institute’s 2025 BEST IN BREW Honors, which was held in Washington D.C on the 5th November.

The Beer Institute, the national trade association for U.S. brewers, beer importers and suppliers, awarded 17 individuals with the coveted BEST IN BREW Honors, which celebrates those who have made an exemplary contribution to their companies and the beer industry.

Mike said, “I am thrilled to have been recognized by The Beer Institute, but this honor wouldn't have been possible without the incredible team I work with at Octopi every day. It’s been a wild and challenging couple of years, but we’ve worked together the whole way through, and so many people made great individual contributions. I’m proud to represent Asahi Beer USA at Octopi.”

Mike was nominated because of his exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and impact on Octopi brewery’s transformation, following its acquisition by Asahi in 2024 and subsequent £35 million investment to improve capabilities, equipment, quality controls and safety at the site.

Mike’s achievements include leading a complex cellar equipment commissioning and integration project and playing a pivotal role in earning the qualification to brew Asahi Super Dry, a rigorous process involving audits, infrastructure upgrades, and multiple validations from master brewers from Japan. Beyond that, he was recognised for his daily commitment to fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment and to continuous improvement.

Paul Verdu, Managing Director, Asahi Beer USA said, “Mike has been instrumental in driving our brewery’s transformation over the last year, helping us to deliver on key aspects of our investment at the site with a collaborative approach, dedication to excellence and a passion for brewing – congratulations Mike.”

“Congratulations to this year’s Beer Institute BEST IN BREW honorees. This recognition is a testament to their passion, innovation and dedication to advancing U.S. beer industry,” said Brian Crawford, president and CEO of the Beer Institute. “From grain to glass, these industry leaders ensure beer continues to be a cornerstone of our economy, our communities and our culture. We are proud to celebrate the 2025 class of BEST IN BREW honorees, their achievements and the role they play in keeping beer vibrant and strong.”
